This detail shows the texture, created from donated scrap pieces of hardwood, from a local furniture manufacture, forming the lines of the feather. The presence of the eagle feather was enhanced by a plume (red/top), which traditionally honors extraordinary courage. The principal, teachers and students of this school exhibited such courage in using art as a tool for learning, at a time when other schools were removing art from their curriculum.
